What is LocateLink?
LocateLink is a location-sharing service built for emergency dispatch operations. When a dispatcher needs to know where someone is, they send a one-time SMS link directly to that person's phone. The recipient opens the link in their browser and shares their GPS coordinates — no app download required.
The service is intended for organisations that rely on fast, accurate location data in time-sensitive situations.
How it works
-
1
The dispatcher enters a phone number and triggers a location request. The recipient receives an SMS containing a secure, single-use link.
-
2
The recipient opens the link in their mobile browser and is asked to allow access to their device's GPS.
-
3
Their location is shared with the dispatcher once. The link cannot be reused and the session ends automatically.
Privacy & Data
LocateLink is built with a minimal-data approach. We do not collect information beyond what is strictly necessary to complete a dispatch request:
- Location data is used solely for the active dispatch request and is not retained after it completes.
- We do not log personal information or GPS coordinates beyond the immediate session.
- No data is used for analytics, advertising, or any purpose unrelated to the dispatch.
- Phone numbers are used only to deliver the one-time SMS link and are not stored after the request completes.
- No user accounts, cookies, or tracking technologies are used on the citizen-facing page.
